Where Thousand hearts beat as one!

Film enthusiasts and film lovers from different countries all over the world, numerous films of international acclaim, long queues in front of theatres, thought simulating movies, open forums and question answer sessions, eight long precious days at fourteen theatres in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram; this was the 24th International Film festival of Kerala for me (my first IFFK experience). The ones who have already been part of the festival might know it;s spirit and warm the .IFFK always provides cherishable memories which are to be preserved deep in our hearts. Whether if you are delegate, volunteer or official, the experience it gives is priceless. Since I was part of the anchoring cell, my experience was a bit different from the delegates and the rest When the delegates are all set and ready waiting inside the theatre atleast half an hour before the screening, we the anchoring pair, will be rushing in just minutes before the beginning of the show.

There were strict regulations for us from the academy, as for when to get on the podium, when to introduce the film, when to call upon the guests and so on. It was not just compering, it was more of a crisis management as we were told from our very grooming sessions.
The Tagore theatre was our crews rest place. After every show, we were supposed to report back at Tagore, unless there were question-answer sessions preceding the screenings. There were days when our schedules were very hectic and we were constantly running from theatre to theatre, not even having proper meals. But inspite of all these, there was always an inner pleasure when on the dais, while welcoming the huge crowd infront of us, eagerly waiting for the film. That was enough to balance ourselves.
To watch films was like a lucky throw for us. Still amidst the busy schedules, some of us did manage to find time to watch a handful of films. ;Market;, the Khasi film that portrays life in the north- eastern markets of our country, ;They say nothing stays the same;, the Japanese film that won Suvarna Chakoram award, the audience poll winner ;Jallikattu;, ;Castle of dreams;, a film that showcases the relationship between a father and his kids, ;The Humorist a film that brings in the difficult life of a comedian were a few I was lucky enough to watch. These films talk a lot about their homelands, cultures and about life as a whole. That;s what makes every film of the festival special.
As far as I am concerned, IFFK is not merely a place for watching and analysing films, its core isabout witnessing different perspectives and visions, of making new bonds and realising new meanings. It is definitely a juncture where thousand hearts beat as one!
